  2. Readme for Rayman2 Demo Version
  3. ================================================================
  4. This file will attempt to explain the basics of installing and 
  5. playing Rayman 2 on the PC. Please note that this is a game 
  6. still in development and there are still a number of bugs. If 
  7. you have feedback or comments on this demo, please send them to:

  11. To play the game you must have either Direct-X(tm) or Glide(tm) 
  12. installed. This demo will not install them for you.

  15. Controls
  16. ===============================================================
  17. We recommend playing with a game pad such as the Microsoft 
  18. Sidewinder (tm). However, it is possible to play with a keyboard. 
  19. If you play with a keyboard, remember that all movements are 
  20. relative to the camera and not to Rayman. For example, if you 
  21. want to move right relative to the camera, press the right arrow 
  22. button.

  27. The arrow keys are used to move in the desired direction

  29. A - to jump - also useful for skipping texts
  30. Space Bar - to fire
  31. Ctrl - the left control key - to strafe - useful in combat
  32. Shift - to walk instead of running

  35. Camera Controls
  36. 0 on the numeric keypad - look mode
  37. Left Ctrl - puts the camera behind Rayman
  38.  
  39. Look mode is useful for looking around. Press 0 on the numeric 
  40. keypad and hold it down, and you can then use the arrow keys 
  41. to look around.

  44. Rayman has many magical powers, some of which are available in 
  45. this demo. For example, if you press A to jump and then press 
  46. A again, Rayman will use his hair as a helicopter. This allows 
  47. him to fall much more slowly. Also, he can climb on a number 
  48. of objects: rope ladders, and nets for example. When fighting 
  49. pirates, be sure to use the strafe mode by pressing the Ctrl 
  50. key while fighting.

  53. History
  54. ============================================================
  55. Pirates have taken over Rayman's world, and they have 
  56. imprisoned him and most of his friends. Rayman has escaped 
  57. from the pirates, but he needs to regain his powers in order 
  58. to free his friends from the pirates and their boss, the evil 
  59. Razorbeard. Ly the fairy is the only one who can help him, 
  60. but she too has been captured by the pirates. To free her, 
  61. Rayman must battle pirates and disable the machine that 
  62. has placed her in suspension. The pirates have broken the 
  63. primordial energy of the world into a thousand pieces, 
  64. called "lums". Rayman needs to recover these lums in order 
  65. to regain his powers. Also, the red lums contain vital 
  66. energy that can restore Rayman's health.

  69. Hints
  70. ==========================================================
  71. Many interesting things are hidden behind the bandages, 
  72. but different techniques are needed in order to access 
  73. the hidden passages. For example, in the beginning of the 
  74. demo there is a bandage on the grass between Rayman and 
  75. the pirate ship. Rayman isn't capable of breaking the 
  76. seal by himself, but maybe he can get some help from a 
  77. "friend". Other bandages can be broken with Rayman's fist, 
  78. and still others need to be broken with barrels full of 
  79. gunpowder. Rayman can pick up these barrels of gunpowder 
  80. and throw them; this can be very useful.

  82. Some passages are blocked and can only be opened by 
  83. finding the right switch. To open a closed passage, Rayman 
  84. needs to shoot the light switch with his fist.
  85.  
  86. When two walls are close enough together to form a 
  87. crevice, Rayman can shimmy up between them by jumping 
  88. rapidly. To jump up between two walls hit the "A" 
  89. key rapidly.

  92. Known Bugs
  93. ========================================================
  94. Please note that this is a demo and not the final version of 
  95. the game. We are still debugging it and we know that there 
  96. are still a number of bugs.

  98. Don't use the menus. If you try to change resolutions 
  99. in the menus it will probably hang. 
  100.  
  101. Sometimes the game doesn't exit cleanly. 
  102.  
  103. There are a couple of problems with Voodoo based cards 
  104. under different 3D APIs. We strongly recommend installing 
  105. the Glide version if you have a Voodoo1 or Voodoo2 based card. 
  106. If you have a Voodoo Banshee, a Voodoo Rush, or a Voodoo3 based 
  107. graphics card, we recommend installing the Direct-X version.

  109. A number of 3d graphics cards have problems with the drivers. 
  110. If you suspect that you are having a problem with your drivers, 
  111. please contact your card vendor.

  113. We are working to correct these problems for the final version of the game.
